If you put too much water in the top it pours out of the container and all over the floor or counter or wherever you set it after filling it under the tap. Where the water goes in, before the filter, the side where the handle is is shorter than the side where the spout is. So when you fill it then set it down, water comes out the back because it isn't as tall as the front. I'm sure the filter works the same as all the rest, but do yourself a favor and get a different design of container if you want a brita.
